The Craftsmanship

Miyuki Tila bracelets are structurally designed to sit flat and lightweight on the skin, and are great for stacking. Each piece is made and backed by science and technology, engineered not to break through the exact correct bead composition and German-made elastic that maintains its elasticity and shape. The knots will not break or come undone. The thread we use is Soft Flex, and while at a higher price point, the glass beads cannot shear its surface, as a comfort layer covers the structural steel underneath to ensure the longevity of the piece.

The Story of Miyuki

Founded in Hiroshima, Japan, in 1949, MIYUKI Co., Ltd. revolutionised the jewellery world by introducing an obsession with absolute geometric uniformity. Driven by the philosophy that tiny grains of glass can achieve mathematical perfection, Miyuki pioneered manufacturing techniques that turned seed beads into flawless components. Today, global artisans recognise Miyuki as the undisputed world standard for seed bead engineering.

The 5-Step Precision Manufacturing Process

  • The 1400°C Melt. Raw silica, sodium carbonate, and calcium carbonate are combined with proprietary mineral colouring agents inside a roaring furnace.
  • The Air-Blown Tube. Molten glass is forced through micro-moulds using high-pressure compressed air, blowing it out into long, continuous hollow glass tubes. The shape of the mould opening dictates whether the bead will be a cylinder or a square.
  • Micro-Cutting. Specialised machinery slices the glass tubes into identical fractions of a millimetre.
  • Carbon-Tumble Polishing. The raw cut pieces are mixed with carbon powder and heated to 700°C to soften and round out any sharp edges.
  • Advanced Surface Finishes. The beads are washed and treated with proprietary techniques like silver-lining, rainbow lusters, matte glazes, or specialised Picasso coatings to achieve resilient colourways.

Delica & Tila Structure

Miyuki Delica (Invented 1982)

Invented by Masayoshi Katsuoka, the Delica was explicitly engineered to behave like yarn in a textile loom or tapestry weave, eliminating the messy, uneven rows caused by traditional round seed beads. Delicas are absolute cylinders with razor-thin walls and flat cut ends. They feature an oversized interior hole, allowing multiple passes of thick beading thread while keeping the weight of the bead incredibly light. When woven together using a peyote or loom stitch, the flat edges lock flush against one another like puzzle pieces, creating a solid, fabric-like surface of glass with zero gaps.

Miyuki Tila (Invented 2011)

Inspired by traditional Japanese architectural mosaic tiles, Tila beads were created to allow flat, geometric tile patterns to bend fluidly around three-dimensional shapes like the human wrist. They are precisely 5mm by 5mm flat squares with a thickness of only 1.9mm. Each Tila bead is engineered with two perfectly parallel stringing holes running through the interior of the tile. This dual-track design completely eliminates flipping or twisting, allowing the bracelet to rest flat against the skin, functioning like a flexible, continuous, and silk-like cuff.

Griffin Elastic (Germany)

Griffin Jewellery Elastic Cord is a high-tech material engineered out of Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU), making it entirely different from craft-grade rubber.

  • Solid extrusion monofilament. Griffin is a single, solid extruded strand of TPU. Because there are no multi-strand fibres, it is physically impossible for the cord to fray or shred. This is crucial because the inner edges of glass Miyuki beads can act like microscopic saws; Griffin's solid surface resists this abrasion entirely.
  • Molecular shape memory. The soft segments provide an elongation capacity of up to 200%, while the hard segments act as structural anchors, instantly pulling the material back to its exact original length and preventing the permanent sagging common in cheap bracelets.
  • Chemical and UV stability. Unlike rubber, which dries out, cracks, and snaps when exposed to sweat, skin oils, or sunlight, Griffin's TPU formulation is highly resistant to environmental aging, preserving its elasticity for years of daily wear.
  • The triple surgeon's knot. Professional construction requires a triple surgeon's knot, sealed with a flexible adhesive. The tiny, dense knot is then pulled inside the wide inner core of an authentic Miyuki bead, completely hiding it from view and protecting it from skin friction.

Soft Flex Wire (USA)

For clasped and woven designs, Soft Flex Professional Beading Wire provides what master makers describe as the strength of steel with the grace of silk.

  • Marine-grade stainless steel core. Up to 49 micro-woven strands of premium, marine-grade stainless steel provide immense tensile strength and prevent the wire from snapping under sudden pressure or heavy daily wear.
  • Supple hypoallergenic nylon shield. The steel core is encased in a smooth, medical-grade nylon coating, giving the wire a thread-like drape while protecting the glass beads and the steel core from each other.
  • Kink and memory resistance. Soft Flex is structurally engineered to resist kinking, ensuring the bracelet retains its perfect, fluid curves over a lifetime of use.

Quality Guarantee & Care

We stand behind the engineering of our jewellery. If your bracelet encounters a manufacturing defect or structural break during normal wear within 6 months, we will happily restring and repair your piece free of charge.

  • The roll-on method. Always gently roll the bracelet over your hand onto your wrist. Never pull or yank one side outward, as this places uneven stress on the knot.
  • Keep it dry. Remove your bracelet before swimming, showering, or applying heavy lotions and perfumes, as chlorine, saltwater and soaps can degrade adhesives and elastic over time.
  • Storage. Store your bracelets flat in a cool, dry place away from direct, prolonged sunlight to protect the specialised glass finishes from fading.
